Aurora FC ended the season on a high note after breaking their five-match losing skid in the final game of the season with a 2-0 win against Ottawa South United at Stewart Burnett Park, Aurora, on Saturday.

The team earned their first clean sheet of the season on the back of a solid defensive performance that featured the very capable Sunny Dhaliwal between the posts.

Nicholas Rallis (23') and Petros Vasilos (56') tucked away their chances to keep the home fans happy.

Maximillian Ferrari fired a cross into the middle of the box to open the first scoring chance. A dummy allowed the ball to fall to the feet of Rallis and he struck it past Ottawa goalkeeper Jared St. Thomas to score on his League1 Ontario debut.

Both teams continued to fight for the ball, emphasizing physical play and quick transitions. Ferrari was shown a caution in the first half after multiple fouls, while Kawake Sophas was caught offside while trying to break through Aurora's defensive block.

The second half continued with the same fury from both teams as attacks went from box-to-box. A quick throw-in gave enough space for Vasilos to snap a quick shot that rippled the back of the net to double Aurora's lead with more than a half-hour to go.

Ottawa tried to battle back from the deficit, but the Force lacked the final ball in the opposing third to trouble the Aurora defence. The timing was just off as the Ottawa runners were called offside two more times to end decent chances.

The quick chances on the wing continued up until the end of the match, forcing Ottawa to break it up with tough tackles. Daniel Assaf was cautioned in the 90th minute after a late tackle on Ottawa's right flank.

Aurora held on in the dying minutes of the game and the season, securing their first win since the end of July. Meanwhile, Ottawa finished up with some disappointment after failing to win consecutive games at any point in the season.

Both teams were unable to make the playoffs but will have a lot to build on for next year with their young rosters.

Aurora FC (3-10-3) finish the season in 15th place with 12 points. Their goal differential for the year is -20 (20 GF, 40 GA).

Ottawa South United (3-9-4) end their season in 14th place with 13 points. Their goal differential finishes at -31 (19 GF, 50 GA).
