Darby FC men’s team took an important step into the playoff zone after a 3-0 win over Pro Stars FC at the Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby on Friday night.

Just nine minutes in, Darby got a free kick just inside Pro Stars half. The kick was taken by Cameron Brooks, and found the head of Mikel-Ryan, who tipped it just wide of the net.

On the half-hour, Darby's Lawson pulled off a beautiful dangle at the top of the penalty box, before giving the ball off to Campbell (30'), who deftly chipped it into the top right corner. This was Campbell's third goal of the season so far.

At half-time, Darby captain Cameron Brooks presented Paul and Sandy from Valvoline Xpress Care with a thank-you from the club for their sponsorship this year.

In the second half, Darby dominated possession, creating great attacking plays and through balls for their strikers.

Darby scored their second goal of the game just before the hour, Moncrieffe (57') getting past the last defender and neatly placing the ball into the bottom left corner.

Frustration began to be evident in the latter quarter of the match. In the 69th minute, ProStar player Okorie, got a caution following a tackle inside his half. Just a minute later, a Pro Star defender made a rash tackle inside his box, giving Darby a penalty kick.

Young (71') took the kick, putting the ball right down the centre of the net and securing the result and a clean sheet for the hosts.

Darby FC will play next on September 16 (4 p.m.) against Oakville Blue Devils at Bronte Athletic Park, Oakville.

Pro Stars FC will play next on September 9 (5 p.m.) against Woodbridge Strikers at Vaughan Grove 1, Woodbridge.
