London came into Wednesday's contest against Unionville Milliken SC looking to clinch the top spot in the league ahead of playoffs, and did just that with help from a Jade Kovacevic hat trick (37', 74', 88').

Both teams showed strong defensive prowess early on, with London mustering the only shot of the game through the first 20 minutes.

London's Marisa Oliveira came extremely close in the 23rd minute, but Unionville defender Adelayo Oguntade tracked back to make a crucial block.

London continued to push harder and harder into the match, coming close in the 33rd minute after Nicole Nielsen's right footed shot hit the post.

Finally, Jade Kovacevic managed to break the deadlock just before the interval, slotting home a low shot into the right corner. To celebrate, Kovacevic led her team over to the stands to celebrate with injured teammate Julia Benati.

Once the second half commenced, FC London could smell blood in the water, pushing harder and harder right from kickoff.

Marisa Oliveira's high shot (48') hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced down over the line to make it 2-0 for FC London.

From there on in, London dominated play. Jade Kovacevic was played onside and slipped right through the Unionville defence adding to her goal tally and making it 3-0 for the home team.

Finally, in the 88th minute, Kovacevic scored her hat trick following a beautiful one-two passing play with substitute Madilyne Michenzi to secure London's 4-0 victory over Unionville and top spot in the league.

FC London will close out the regular season when they travel to play West Ottawa S.C. on August 18 (4 p.m.).

Unionville Milliken finish the season with 18 points and a record of 5-4-3. They are currently in sixth position.
