After three defeats in a row, Alliance United FC grabbed an important 3-0 win over Woodbridge Strikers, taking over the final spot in the playoff zone of eight teams.

Woodbridge started the match off in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Alliance's 4-3-2-1.

The first half was balanced, and both teams had chances to score, but it was Alliance who found the net in the half.

A powerful shot from outside the box was parried by Woodbridge keeper Tyrone Williams but Steven Furlano (16') slotted the rebound into the net to give the lead to his side.

After the goal, Alliance sat back and looked for opportunities to counter in behind the rival defence. They got two good chances through that plan, though Williams denied them by his outstanding saves on both occasions.

Alliance doubled the lead after Connor Mcfall (50') got the ball following Bogdan Poliakhov's shot and placed the rebound in the net from close range.

Just minutes later, Farrell Francis’ (54') glancing header at the near post on a cross from the right side extended the difference to three goals.

For the rest of the match, Alliance wisely controlled the game, not letting Woodbridge create any real scoring chances. Alliance were solid in defence and succeeded in keeping the statistically best attack of the league off the score-sheet to secure all three points.

It was Woodbridge's first loss in their last six games and only the second time that they haven't been able to find the net in the season.

Woodbridge Strikers will next face Sigma at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge on August 26 (7 p.m).

Alliance United FC will next play Darby FC on August 17 (8 p.m) at Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.
