Woodbridge Strikers scored three goals in each half to seal a 6-0 win over Darby FC, who managed only a single shot on target in the entire game.

Woodbridge started the match off in a 4-2-3-1 formation against Darby’s 4-1-4-1.

The host completely dominated the game in the first half and pushed forward from the beginning, pinning back Darby in their own half and not allowing even a single shot on or off target in the half.

After missing two golden opportunities in the first ten minutes, Woodbridge took the lead through Diamond Simpson (19') from the penalty spot.

After the goal, Woodbridge kept the pressure on looking to extend the difference. Just before the interval, April Syme’s shot from outside the box hit the post and Cathryn Rogers (37') sent it into the back of the net on rebound.

Then, three minutes before the halftime, Vanessa Thompson (42') scored in a one on one situation with the keeper only two minutes after coming off the bench.

The second half had the same story; Woodbridge dominated the game, and Darby were forced back, their backline barely leaving their defensive third and the lone striker was isolated.

Calaigh Copland (62') came off the bench at halftime, and just after the hour mark rounded the keeper and got her name on the scoresheet.

Rogers (64') kept up the offensive assault for Woodbridge, celebrating her second goal with a great shot from outside the box just minute late.

Copland (75') again found herself in a one on one situation with the keeper and scored the last goal of the game just a quarter hour from the final whistle.

With 21 shots on target, Woodbridge could have scored more, but Darby keeper Hunter Jones denied several clear-cut opportunities. Although she conceded six goals, she had a strong performance with12 great saves.

Woodbridge Strikers will next face Oakville Blue Devils at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge on August 19 (5:45 p.m).

Darby FC will next play Dero United Fc on August 18 (4:30 p.m) at L'Amoreaux, Toronto.
