Sigma FC defeated Toronto FC III by a score of 2-1 to move three points clear atop the League1 Ontario men's division standings.

Sigma FC came out to a flying start at the BMO Training Ground when Daniel Jodah forced a turnover deep within the TFC III half and after a small scramble the ball fell for Tristan Borges (12'), who made no mistake.

At the break the away side led 1-0.

Sigma FC had an opportunity to double their advantage when Duran Lee rose highest off a corner just after the restart but sent his header into the hands of TFC III goalkeeper Spencer King.

Sigma would eventually double their advantage when substitute Charlie Anagho-Ntamark (60') was played down the left flank, burst past his defender and slotted it home past King.

TFC III could have pulled one back when Malyk Hamilton was found inside the area on a cutback from Jayden Nelson but Sigma keeper Triston Henry gathered it.

The home side would eventually pull one back when Mehdi Essoussi (80') found space in the midfield and fired a shot from 25 yards out that snuck past Henry.

A strong Sigma FC backline which has only conceded four goals through 11 league matches this season were able to see out the final 10 minutes and collect all three points.

TFC III remain in second place and will now prepare for a visit to Vaughan Azzurri on August 14 (9 p.m.) at the Ontario Soccer Stadium, Vaughan.

Sigma FC now sit in first place with games in hand and will prepare for a visit to Pro Stars FC on August 18 (8:30 p.m.) at Victoria Park, Brampton.
