In a preview of the women's 2018 L1 Cup next weekend, the Woodbridge Strikers hosted Unionville-Milliken S.C on the last day of Matchweek 11 and earned the 1-0 victory.

The start of the match saw the hosts Woodbridge hold the majority of possession, not forcing passes in dangerous areas and patiently trying to open up their opponent.

Two chances within 10 minutes of the kickoff allowed Woodbridge to dictate play. A run down the left wing near the goal line denied by the Unionville keeper, and a corner placed near the far post were two good chances coach Dave Porco would've liked his team to finish.

The problem for Woodbridge was their inability to finish when close to goal. A handball inside the box gave the ball back to their opponents, and a shot from 30 yards out was denied by Unionville keeper Levanta Staggolis.

When the second half was underway, Unionville started to keep the ball inside Woodbridge's half, earning a corner kick and their first shot on target seven minutes into the half.

Costly interceptions were a problem for Woodbridge in the last 45 minutes, however their strong back-line was able to recover.

The last 15 minutes of play would see Woodbridge miss a shot from six yards away on goal and another one smash off the crossbar.

Woodbridge unlucky breaks would pay off minutes from full-time, when long time Striker and second half sub, Christabel Oduro (82'), made her 2018 season debut and slotted her shot in the bottom left corner from 10 yards out to get the first and only goal.

With the win, the Strikers now sit three points off second placed Durham United FA and seven behind division leaders FC London, occupying a joint-fourth place position with local rivals Vaughan Azzurri. Importantly, Woodbridge has two games in hand on all their competitors.

Up next for both Woodbridge and Unionville will be the women's 2018 L1 Cup final on August 4 (5:00 p.m.) at the Ontario Soccer Centre Stadium, Woodbridge.
