A late goal from De Ro United FC's Olivia Mbala (80') secured three points over Aurora FC in Matchweek 11 of the season.
Both sides started strong with a handful of shots in the first few minutes of the match. DeRo's first goal-scoring opportunity came in the 5th minute with Shannen Jainudeen heading the ball slightly wide.
Aurora would counter and force De Ro's Olivia Tierney to a one handed save to keep her clean sheet. Each side would unleash numerous attacking opportunities keeping both keepers on their toes.
In the 35th minute it was a close call for Aurora's Meaghan Phillips as a close range attempt went over her after pushing the ball out. Philips quickly reacted to secure the ball from not crossing the goal line.
At the break, the score remained 0-0.
De Ro's Victoria Savage came on at the half, as O. Tierney would exit the match with a clean sheet. Both teams would continue their fight to keep the ball out of their net in a fairly evenly matched game.
The deadlock would finally be broken at the 80th minute from a set piece. DeRo's Mbala headed the ball into the back of the net to open the score line.
Despite the late goal, Aurora continued to play with the same momentum and intensity into the closing minutes of the match. Unfortunately it wasn't enough for the home side as the visiting team stood firm to collect all three points. De Ro's Savage earned her first clean sheet of the season coming off the bench.
With the win, De Ro's record improves to 15 points (4W - 2L - 3T) and will now host Vaughan Azzurri at L'Amoreaux on July 28 (4:30 p.m.).
Aurora FC can't catch a break with a record of (1W - 6L - 1L) and will be travelling to Hershey Centre on July 28 (8:00 p.m.) to take on North Mississauga SC.
