Darby FC men’s team took on Unionville Milliken SC at the Whitby Soccer Centre  on Friday night, and while it was a great fight by both teams - Darby kept the points at home with a final score of 2-0.

The match was feisty and the early tone was set by a series of cautions.

Just moments into the game, Darby player Cameron Brooks received a caution just outside his box following a tackle. In the 25th minute, there was another caution, this time for Darby player, Jonathan Parolini, who saw yellow after holding a player's jersey and pulling him back. And just a few minutes later, there was a caution awaiting Unionville's Richard Edwards as he got up from a tackle deemed late; however, just one minute into the two minutes of extra time, it was Edwards' caution that gave Darby the breakthrough they needed via a free kick.

Hayden Clarke took the kick, giving a great ball for his teammates to capitalize on. Marcellus Paul (45' + 2) did just that, jumping up and sending it right into the back of the net.

The second half started off with Unionville having most of the possession and pushing Darby's defensive line. Just after the hour mark though, Darby got their second goal and secured the lead. Moncrieffe (63') took a shot from the half that flew right over the goalkeeper's reach and just under the crossbar.

In the last quarter of the game Unionville was desperate to close the gap, with set-plays and multiple shots on net being attempted. But the visitors could not find a breakthrough and it was perhaps fitting that the last recorded statistic in this gritty match was a caution to Darby player Hayden Clarke in the 85th minute.

Darby FC will next play Windsor TFC on July 28 (4 p.m.) at the Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.

Unionville Milliken SC will next play FC London on July 27 (8:30 p.m.) at the German Canadian FC Stadium Field, London.
