Darby FC and Aurora FC had to settle on a share of the points at the Whitby Soccer Centre on Friday night, as both sides struck a goal each within the first twenty minutes and then held each other to a 1-1 stalemate.

Both teams came into the first half with high intensity, Darby taking the lead with the first goal as Christian Moncrieffe (13') took a long shot just inside Auroras half, the ball went right over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.

Aurora got right back into the game within minutes. A great cross from Morey Doner flew across the box and found the feet of Maximillian Ferrari (17'), who put it straight into the top right corner. This is Ferrari’s third goal of the season.

With the tension building, the ref gave out three cautions between the 18th and 39th minutes. The first one was given to Darby player Michael Maiorano, following a rough tackle. The second was awarded to another Darby player, Dylan Campbell, while third was given to Aurora player Dylan Rennie for dissent.

The second half was full of great opportunities for both teams, unfortunately neither were able to find the breakthrough.

Darby FC will be playing again on July 17 (8 p.m.) at the Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby against joint-first place side TFC III.

Aurora FC’s next game will be on July 18 (9 p.m.) at Stewart Burnett Park, Aurora against joint-first place side Sigma FC.
