On Wednesday July 11 (7:30 p.m.) at the Ontario Soccer Centre (7601 Martin Grove Rd.), League1 Ontario's Young Stars will take on the Canada Soccer Regional Excel Program (REX), offering a unique opportunity to see the current cream-of-the-crop of Canadian and Ontario women's players.

"This match provides a useful measuring stick for many of our best U20 women as the REX Ontario side that they will be squaring off against features many of the top young female players in the Canadian Youth National Team system, some of who just helped Canada qualify for the next U17 World Cup," said League1 Ontario Commissioner, Dino Rossi.

"It will be a good test and we hope this can become an annual fixture in our schedule."

Currently ranked fifth in the FIFA Women's World Rankings list at the senior level, this friendly match offers a rare glimpse inside the esteemed REX program that has been developing Canada's next generation of stars. In turn, it presents a showcase environment for the U20 group from League1 Ontario, many of whom are already established members of the national program.

"This is a great opportunity to see the top young female players in Ontario," said Ontario Soccer Technical Director, Gary Miller.

"The League1 Young Stars vs. the Canada Soccer Regional Excel players will provide Ontario fans with an opportunity to see the future quality of female players at the highest level."

"National staff and Provincial staff are eager to assess these groups in competition for the first time," he added.

League1 Ontario continues to provide a showcase standards-based environment for the top female and male player products in Ontario, and Commissioner Rossi revealed that the match was in the planning stage for some time, and could present an opportunity for similar future endeavours.

"League1 Ontario has always been very focused on being a league that gives young players a platform to shine," he explained.

"Introducing a "Young Stars" game is something we have been wanting to do for a while and we are happy to have this opportunity for our top U20 players in the women’s division," he concluded.

"In the future, we hope to be able to put on a similar event for our top young male players as well."
