A late push from the visiting Oakville Blue Devils saw them finish on top over the Vaughan Azzurri 4-0 in Matchweek 8 action at McNaughton Turf.

The match began with both sides trading chances on goal. Vaughan had two quality scoring chances within 15 minutes from striker Cassandre Van Bakel, but her first shot off a cross just went over the bar and her second would be called back for offside.

Before the half-hour mark, Oakville was almost gifted an early lead after a scramble inside the box lead to a mis-timed header, which was picked up by an Oakville player, and then a chip shot on goal was denied on the line.

Oakville made it a tough day for Azzurri keeper Taylor Grant, as she made a handful of saves to try and keep her side in the match.

Vaughan would take charge in the beginning of the second-half, as they won the ball deep in Oakville's end and got shots off when close to goal.

A Van Bakel chance in the 49th minute was Vaughan’s best chance in the second 45 minutes, as she sprung forward on goal and went one v one with an Oakville defender inside the 18-yard box. However her shot from the right side just skipped by the near post.

After an hour of play, Oakville turned to their substitutes for an extra boost.

It paid dividends immediately as 65th minute sub Olivia Di Cristofaro (69’) grabbed the first goal of the match. Grant turned away an initial Oakville shot, but the rebound landed at the feet of Di Cristofaro for an easy tap-in.

Sarah Stratigakis (76') would extend her team's lead near the end of the match, after a shot that deflected into the net.

The last two goals came from second-half subs Mahira Ali (79') and Oshay Lawes (87'), ensuring Oakville would grab all three points at McNaughton.

With the win, Oakville improve to 3-3-1 (10 points) and sit in the middle of the League1 women's division.

As for Vaughan, they will visit the Ontario Soccer Centre Stadium on July 14 (6 p.m.) to take on Unionville-Milliken S.C.
