Atif Hammud Ali (86') slotted a penalty kick into the corner, putting Sanjaxx Lions in the win column after a 1-0 victory over Ottawa South United.

The Lions' last game was a 1-0 loss after a penalty, but they found themselves on the other side of the coin today after an errant handball in the box that led to the spot kick.

Ali scored in his first game of the League1 Ontario season, and Sanjaxx won their first game since May.

Sanjaxx controlled the game in the first half, but they were unfortunate to not score from Stefan Nikolic's two solid shots saved by Jared St. Thomas. The OSU keeper couldn't earn the clean sheet or the win for his side, but he made eight saves in the process.

Meanwhile, Lions' keeper Rodolfo Aguiar was not heavily challenged throughout the 90 minutes. With a strong defence captained by Kemar Rowe, Aguiar earned his first clean sheet of the season.

Sanjaxx capitalized on the young Ottawa team visiting from five hours away.

The home team attempted 16 shots with nine of them hitting the target. However, only one goal was needed for the win, and OSU will be left disappointed to go home with zero.

Sanjaxx Lions (2-4-1) sit in 12th place after the win with seven points. Ali's penalty kick puts their goal differential to -3 (4 GF, 7 GA).

Sanjaxx will take a trip west on the 401 to meet FC London at the German Canadian FC Stadium Field, London on July 13 (8:30 p.m.).

Ottawa South United (1-4-2) find themselves in 15th place with five points. Their goal differential is at -13 (7 GF, 20 GA).

OSU Force return to Quinns Point, Ottawa on July 14 (3:30 p.m.) to host Unionville Milliken S.C.
