Unionville-Milliken SC were led by the strong play of striker Natasha Klasios (45',59') as they defeated the Toronto Azzurri Blizzard 2-0 to advance to the Semi-Finals of the L1 Cup.

Both sides began the match in a conservative manner, with Blizzard playing a 4-3-3 for the majority of the match, while Unionville opted for a 3-5-2.

Unionville also enjoyed playing passes down the wings for the first 20 minutes, in hopes they could create a good opportunity off a cross.

The Blizzard went into this match in hopes they could force their opponents to make mistakes in their half and work off quick counter-attacks. This game plan would work at moments throughout the first half, but they just weren't able to get shots off when near the goal.

From the 20th to 30th minute of play, the Blizzard had their best chances of the first half to get on the scoreboard. However, the strong backline of Unionville-Milliken would deny any scoring chances.

After denying their opponent's high-pressure attack, Unionville got their best chance on goal in the 36th minute when midfielder Tina Lacava intercepted a ball from 25 yards out and placed a through ball down the left flank for Klasios, but her cross inside the box was tipped just wide of the net.

Right before the ref could signal for half-time, Unionville won the ball in the middle of the pitch and played a through ball to a wide open Klasios, who sprung forward on goal and put her side up 1-0.

The second half saw Unionville dictate the speed of play with ease, holding onto the ball and looking for gaps down the middle in the hopes of gaining a 2-0 lead.

Klasios would reward her team's hard fought effort in the 59th minute, when she curled a shot from the right wing to earn her second goal of the match.

If having Klasios wasn't enough for the Blizzard to deal with, they had to also worry about Isabelle Nashmi who had two great chances to extend her teams lead, but just came out short.

With the victory, Unionville-Milliken advance to the semi-finals of the L1 Cup and will take on Vaughan Azzurri.

Unionville-Milliken's next match will be on July 7 (4:00 p.m.) when they take on Darby FC at Bill Crothers Turf Centre.
