DeRo United FC defeated North Mississauga SC 3-2 on Saturday to advance to the Semi-Finals of the women's 2018 L1 Cup.

Cassandra Sribny (24'), Vital Kats (60') and Sarah Norman-Minnis (72') staked a big lead for DeRo United, before a late brace from Sara Traynor (76', 90' + 3') made things interesting, but it was not enough to keep North Mississauga alive in the L1 Cup competition.

DeRo United will now take on the Woodbridge Strikers in the Cup semi-final (date and location TBD).

Early on it was the hosts who looked most likely to open the scoring through Traynor, who headed just wide in the 16th minute and fired a low shot just past the far post in the 23rd minute.

North Mississauga would rue these missed opportunities, as just one minute later Sribny put the visitors ahead with a nice low strike in box.

DeRo United keeper Victoria Savage charged bravely out of her goal in the 36th minute to break up a through ball and then stopped two North Mississauga follow-up attempts to keep her side up one nil after the opening 45 minutes.

Upon the restart, DeRo United found their insurance marker through Kats, who hit a lovely volley finish off the far post and in after finding some space in the North Mississauga box.

Although Traynor's second closed the gap late, DeRo United's lead never looked truly in danger.
