After a gritty match up between hosts Vaughan Azzurri and visitors Oakville Blue Devils, it would be the hosts to emerge victorious at the right end of a 5-2 scoreline.

Jarred Phillips (5') opened the scoring for Vaughan early, while Mario Kovacevic (14') doubled the lead after dispossessing his defender and scoring his first of the season.

Before the 20th minute, it would seem like Vaughan’s Eddie Lay (17') had sealed the match with a wonder strike from 30 yards out. But Oakville were determined to get back into the match.

The Blue Devils rallied after the third goal and created a few opportunities in the attacking third. In the 21st minute, Filipe Vilela had a go at net but the strike flew past the top bar. He would go on to play a crucial role in Oakville's goals.

Jarek Whiteman, who assisted Vaughan’s first goal, would find himself in a one-on-one situation with the keeper. However, Oakville's Saini stepped out just in time to close down Whiteman.

The Blue Devils's Vilela sent a low cross into the penalty area which Anthony Novak (32’) picked up and powered past the Azzurri keeper. Oakville gathered momentum as a Brandon Duarte (42') strike made the match into a one goal margin going into halftime.

The first ten minutes of the second half was a slight case of déjà vu with Vaughan coming close to scoring in the early minutes. From a corner kick, Whiteman's header hit the post and Alistair Johnston scored a header in the 55th minute but had it ruled offside.

Vaughan with their goal advantage would hold off on Oakville's attack and would seize two more opportunities before the game was out - Dayonn Harris (78') and Munir Saleh (79') sealing the victory for Vaughan with their late game strikes.

The home side defeated the Oakville Blue Devils 5-2, marking Vaughan's first win in regular season against Oakville since the Blue Devils joined League1 in the 2015 season.

Vaughan are now with a record of 4W - 3L - 0T, while Oakville had their first lost of the season leaving them with 3W - 1L - 2T.

Oakville will host TFC III on Sunday July 8th (4 p.m.) at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus.

Vaughan will make their way to Scarborough to LAmoreaux to take on Alliance United FC on Saturday July 15th (4:30 p.m.).
