It was a beautiful Saturday evening in London and fans were treated to a gritty team effort from FC London and Durham United FA as they battled for first place.

The FC London fans would leave content as the home team was able score two second half goals and win 2-0.

It was a great start to the game, with both FC London and Durham United FA showcasing their skills and looking to impose their style. FC London had the possession advantage early on.

London continued to control possession and were trying to find the quality ball in the final third, but Durham United FA was organized and defending well, looking to counter.

FC London became the physical aggressor, committing nine fouls in the first half,  and caused Durham some issues with consecutive corners in the final minutes of the first half. The set-pieces lacked cutting edge however, and the first half ended 0-0 to set up a great second half.

In the 57' Durham United FA pushed forward with K. Mitchell unleashing a rocket from outside the 18-yard box. FC London keeper E. Gillet was equal to the task with a great save.

FC London broke the deadlock via scoring machine J. Kovacevic (60'), who was played into the box and placed the ball past Durham's keeper S. Petrucci. FC London had the 1-0 lead.

As the second half wore on, FC London continued to push forward and control possession with J. Benati pulling the strings for the FC London attack. The physical game continued as FC London committed nine fouls in the second half.

In the 69' minute FC London’s D. Strano was given a yellow card for accumulation of fouls.

FC London extended their lead to 2-0 over Durham United FA as J. Kovacevic (79') took a pass from A. Campbell (53' substitute) and slotted the ball through two Durham defenders and past Petrucci in Durham's goal.

In the last 10 minutes, the game opened up as Durham pushed forward to try to find a goal but were unable to threaten Emily Gillet's bid for a clean sheet as many attempts were from long range.

FC London countered and were looking for an additional goal but were unable to put the ball past Petrucci.

FC London will take their 27 game undefeated streak into their 2nd round L1 Cup game at home against Vaughan Azzurri on Saturday June 23 (noon) at the London Marconi Club.

Durham United FA will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Woodbridge on Sat July 14 (5 p.m.).
