The Oakville Blue Devils defeated West Ottawa S.C. 4-2 to earn their first League1 victory in the women's division.

Oshay Lawes (32', 90') led the way for Oakville (1-3-1) with a brace, while Roselyn Kyeame (46') and Mohara Ali (90'+ 24 PK) also tallied for the hosts in a match that contained a lengthy delay for injury to West Ottawa player, Jacqueline Madogo.

West Ottawa (0-5-0) twice battled back after falling behind with goals from Crystal Schuder (41') and Clarissa Larisey (51'), but it was not enough to walk away with a point from Sheridan College Stadium.

Oakville started in the ascendency early, as Ali, who was making her debut for the club, fired a shot from outside the box that struck the bar just eight minutes in.

In the 16th minute, Ali once again made herself a nuisance to the West Ottawa back-line, skipping past a couple of defenders before hitting a low strike that was ably stopped by keeper Mollie Eriksson.

After Oakville finally broke through with a low finish from Lawes, West Ottawa nearly pulled level just minutes later as Larisey, who was lively throughout, fired just wide of the far post in the 36th minute after a lovely solo run down the flank.

The visitors equalized as half-time approached from a Schuder finish off a scramble from in close, leaving the two clubs level after 45 minutes.

Oakville started quickly after the break, re-taking the lead in the opening minute of the second half through Kyeame, but once again the visitors showed their resiliency and leveled the match within minutes, this time through a strike from Larisey in the Oakville box.

Unfortunately, there was a lengthy delay shortly after the equalizer due to injury to West Ottawa's Madogo, who was forced to leave the match after being treated by paramedics for a head injury.

After the re-start, it was Oakville who looked the likeliest to find a winner and it came through Lawes' second in the 90th minute, before Ali finally put the match to bed with a penalty deep into stoppage time.

Next up for the Oakville Blue Devils is a home match against the Toronto Azzurri Blizzard on June 17th (4 p.m.) at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus.
