The German Canadian Club was home to a thrilling game Saturday night, with FC London's star forward, Jade Kovacevic, scoring two goals (38', 88') to secure a 3-2 victory over the Vaughan Azzurri.

Things started out slow for the home team, with the Azzurri taking control in the early going.

London's woes continued when Azzurri forward Nour Ghoneim (22') took advantage of a poor FC London clearance and rifled a shot home to make it 1-0 Azzurri just after twenty minutes.

While most would have thought Ghoneim's goal would dampen the spirits of FC London, it only seemed to awaken a sleeping giant.

London turned up the pressure for the remaining minutes of the first half, which inevitably proved too much for the Azzurri to handle.

Daniella Strano's (31') finished after an excellent run down the right hand side, before Kovacevic's tenth goal of the year (39') gave London a 2-1 lead heading into the break.

Play opened up in the second half, with both teams hungry to score more. A pivotal substitution was made in the 53rd minute by Vaughan, with Sami Falkenstein checking in for Colleen Beesley.

After nearly finding the goal with a floating shot that hit the crossbar in the 60th minute, Falkenstein's (68') goal 20 minutes from full-time tied the score at two apiece.

After Falkenstein's goal, the energy brought by the Azzurri was clearly fading quickly.

Only two substitutions were made in the game by the Azzurri, with Falkenstein's entry marking the first and Maia Torelli swapping with Christina Morelli in the 67th minute for the second change.

Conversely, the four substitutes made by FC London coach Mike Marcoccia seemed to rejuvenate the home team.

Tired legs may have factored in as Jade Kovacevic (88') was given ample amounts of space in front of goal to score her second of the game just minutes from full-time, giving FC London a very late 3-2 victory.

The win moves London into first place in the league, and stretches their undefeated streak this season to six games. For the Azzurri, they drop down to third place to finish Matchweek 6.

FC London will take on second place Durham United FA next Saturday June 16 (8 p.m.) at the German Canadian FC Club, London.

The Azzurri will host the Woodbridge Strikers next Sunday June 17 (11 a.m.) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.
