Alexis Kirton (90' + 4) scored an equalizer in the dying minutes of the game, salvaging a point for DeRo United in a 1-1 draw with Woodbridge Strikers at L'Amoreaux on Saturday night.
The game looked to be over with almost no time left, but substitute Rhjannon Kissel made enough space in the box to set up a cross to the far post.
Kirton, usually a centreback, smashed the low ball into the top of the net for her second goal of the season.
Woodbridge netted the first goal of the game after some quick one-two passing, finished by Jenny Wolever (71').
The Strikers were in control for most of the match, using their quickness to their advantage. Some mis-timed runs led to six offside decisions against the Strikers, but their attack was potent against the slower DeRo United.
Despite the advantage to the away team, DeRo fought hard to stay in the game.
Even though Woodbridge attempted ten shots, only four of them were on target. Most of DeRo's crosses missed their target, but the one that mattered most helped them earn the tie.
Yellow cards were issued to Alyscha Mottershead and Jessica Lisi in an otherwise disciplined match.
DeRo United (2-1-2) finish the weekend in fifth place with eight points. Their crucial goal leaves them at a +3 goal differential (8 GF, 5 GA).
DeRo visits Unionville Milliken SC next at Bill Crothers Turf Centre, and their game is scheduled for Friday, June 8 (8:00 p.m.).
The draw leaves Woodbridge Strikers (1-0-2) in seventh place with five points. Wolever's goal puts them at a +2 goal differential (5 GF, 3 GA).
Woodbridge is back at home in Vaughan Grove on Sunday, June 10 (10:00 a.m.), taking on Aurora FC.
