Woodbridge Blanks Durham 4-0 To Move On In L1OW Cup

Woodbridge Strikers women's team secured their place in the 2nd round of the League1 Cup after defeating Durham United 4-0 at home at Vaughan Grove Park.

The Strikers came out in full attack, dominating possession for the majority of the first half. Jenny Wolever (29') opened the scoring for the home side after reaching a cross in front of the net where she headed it under Durham keeper Laura Serafino's arm and into the left corner of the net. 

Durham made a number of attempts to connect the ball down the wing but were beaten by the mighty Woodbridge midfield. 

Still sustaining hope for an equalizer, Durham came out strong after in the second half. However, they were unable to break through the Strikers defence. 

Alyscha Mottershead (54') extended the lead by bending a ball around the Durham defence and into the top left corner of the net.

A header by Cathryn Rogers (61') shocked the crowd while increasing the goal difference between the two teams to four.

April Syme (84') secured the victory for Woodbridge after tapping in a stray ball from directly in front of the net. 

With the win, the Woodbridge Strikers move on to in the Women's League1 Cup where they will take on Aurora FC.

Woodbridge women will continue their regular season schedule on June 2 (5:00 p.m.) when they visit DeRo United at LAmoreaux #1.

Durham United will return to regular season action on June 1 (7:30 p.m) as they host Darby FC at Kinsman Park Turf in Pickering.
