DeRo United are moving on to the next round of the League1 Cup with a 3-1 win over West Ottawa at Wesley Clover Turf.

DeRo's Melanie Forbes (26’) opened the scoring off a free kick right at the top of the 18-yard box. The expansive West Ottawa wall was no match for Forbes, who placed the kick nicely in the top right corner.

The away side expanded their lead late in the second half on an Alexis Kirton strike from a tight angle. Taking them into the break with a 2-0 lead.

West Ottawa came out of the locker rooms in the second half strong and clawed a goal back off a Jenna Robinson strike (57’).

Late in the game, West Ottawa missed a key opportunity inside Dero’s 6-yard box that could have made tied the match and made it anyone’s game.

Kirton sealed West Ottawa’s elimination with a 74th minute strike, and her second of the game.

DeRo United move on to the next round of the cup and will be taking on North Mississauga S.C. They will get back to the regular season on June 2 (5:00 p.m.) when they host the Woodbridge Strikers.
