Hamilton United Elite defeated Aurora FC 2-nil in the Matchweek 4 opener on Friday night to stay at the top of the women’s table.

The hosts, who remain undefeated in their inaugural season, got second half goals from Paige Culver (52') and Angela Cutaia (63') to pull away from Aurora.

The opening half started slowly, with the best chance falling to Emma Ramsay, who hit the post with a well-struck header in the 15th minute.

Just one minute before the break, Aurora keeper Meaghan Phillips did well to gather the ball after punching away the initial corner kick.

Hamilton did manage to put the ball in the Aurora net twice in the first half, but were ruled offside on both occasions.

At the half, Alexandra Hebert came on to replace Ramsay and nearly made an immediate impact, rattling a powerful strike off the bar in the 49th minute.

Hamilton continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and finally found a breakthrough when Culver slotted home a rebound from in close.

But it was Cutaia who stole the show, as she finished a beautiful volley in the box to put the contest out of reach and extend her goal-scoring streak to three matches.

Next up for Hamilton United Elite is a road match-up with the Vaughan Azzurri on June 2nd (12 pm) at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.
