A quick goal and strong defence were keys in Durham United FA coming on top over Oakville Blue Devils 3-0 in Matchweek 3 of League1 Ontario women's play at Sheridan Trafalgar Campus on Sunday.

Durham striker Simone Wark (3') got off to a great start, as her shot inside the eighteen-yard box blew by keeper Rachel Yerxa and put her side up the 1-0 before the 5th minute.

The away side weren't done yet, creating two quality chances before the 15 minute mark, but Yerxa would stand tall denying a low shot with a diving save and a header with some quick reflexes.

Offside troubles did hinder Oakville, having three chances called back in the first 45 minutes.

Durham would continue to dominate Oakville in the second half, allowing their first shot target in the 61st minute. This was attributed by the strong play of centre-back duo Kayla Adams and Jordane Carvery, who were able to get ahead of any Oakville attack and clear it out.

The Blue Devils struggled for the most part of the match by being unable to create anything in the final third and falling short in the middle of the pitch.

Durham would add some insurance when winger Hollie Babut (74') chipped a shot from 20 yards out after a pass back to the Oakville keeper backfired.

Laura Gosse's (78') strike would further strengthen Durham's claim on the result and ultimately give the club their second straight win.

With this win, Durham now sits one point shy of first place with a 2W - 0L - 1D record.

Oakville women will look for their first win of the 2018 season, when they head to the German Canadian Field to take on back-to-back champions FC London on May 24 (8:30 p.m)
