Hamilton United defeated Unionville Milliken S.C. on home turf by a score of 1-0 to move three points clear atop the League1 Ontario women's division.

Hamilton United came out to a flying start when Angela Cutaia (3') found the ball at her feet within the area and chipped the ball past Nicole Paraskevopoulos in the Unionville goal.

For the majority of the first interval, the home side had the visitors pinned into their own half.

In the 34' minute, Gabriella Cipriano fired a spectacular shot from 30 yards out, rattling the crossbar – Paraskevopoulos was beat.

At times, Unionville displayed the quality we’ve seen through their opening two matches, building up from the back and finding their number nine, Natasha Klasios – but the lone striker had a difficult evening going up against two strong Hamilton United central defenders.

Unionville's best chance came in the 83' minute when Jenna Leslie rose highest on a corner but her ensuing header sailed narrowly wide of the post.

In total, Hamilton United registered 13 shots to Unionville's four - which tells most of the story on a chilly night at Ron Joyce Stadium.

With the win, Hamilton United move to seven points out of a possible nine. Unionville remain on four after a strong showing in their opening two matches.

Hamilton United will next host Aurora FC on May 18 (8 p.m.) at Ron Joyce Stadium, Hamilton.

Unionville will next host West Ottawa S.C. on May 19 (4 p.m.) at Bill Crothers Turf Centre, Unionville.
