It was an historic night in Aurora as the women’s team got to perform for the first time at their new home ground, Stewart Burnett Park.

Both teams fought through chilly conditions on Saturday, with Vaughan SC eventually defeating Aurora 2-0.

In the first half, the visiting side dominated possession and created a few more attacking opportunities. Aurora FC found themselves with no shots on target, no corners either, but were on the receiving end of seven fouls.

Vaughan landed three shots on goal, three corners, three offside and only got fouled on four occasions.

"Final third of the field in the first half, we didn't combine enough and break them down to get goals," said Vaughan SC Head Coach Carmine Issaco.

"We had a better second half, breaking them down."

Vaughan's Van Bakel (52') exploited a gap in Aurora's defensive line, scoring the first goal of the match.

"Defensively we did our part, we need to work more on our attack - creating better attacking situations for us," said Aurora FC head coach, Siamac Kavianpour.

Vaughan's 1-0 lead didn't affect Aurora's momentum, defensively they continued to execute. Aurora struggled was getting the ball past the middle third, often finding themselves turning it over as soon as they played it into the middle.

Vaughan increased their lead when Ghoneim (76') slipped in a loose ball late in the game.

Aurora continue to have a fighting spirit until the final whistle, looking to pull at least one goal back.

"Our squad is using a lot of young players and overall for the first game it was alright, we will need to work on our fitness."

"Every game we will approach differently, while we work towards improving our players' individual skills. The game itself is the best teacher and now I know what I need to work on for this week."

Siamac reiterated, the goal of developing players through the age ranks and getting them into League1.

Isacco wants his team to play well with the ball.

"We just want to be prepare for every role on the ball and we want to be dominant on every role on the ball. I think we did that with the ball but we need to be a little bit better again the final third of the field, creating more chances and scoring more goals."

Aurora will next play Darby FC on Saturday May 5 at Whitby Soccer Centre, Whitby.

Vaughan will next play Durham United FA on Saturday May 5 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.
