Despite a shaky first 20 minutes, Hamilton United Elite started their League1 Ontario journey off with a 2-0 win at West Ottawa.

Hamilton looked very dangerous from all seven of their corners, but it was the second one that got them their first League1 goal when Paige Epp (3') headed home the set piece.

West Ottawa keeper Mollie Erikksson wasn’t really tested until late in the first half when she pulled off a big save, tipping the ball over the crossbar.

At the other end, Hamilton United Elite's keeper Marilena Spagnolo started off her League1 career as a calm presence at the back of this young team, earning her first clean sheet.

Second half substitutions eroded some of the stability and fluidity of West Ottawa's game, and pressure from Hamilton eventually led to a second goal deep in stoppage time (Dipietro, 90+3).

West Ottawa's Josee DeJesus-Shaw continued right where she left off last season, playing the full 90 minutes in the game, holding down the midfield.

Game two of West Ottawa’s three game home stand sees Woodbridge Strikers make the trip to Ottawa May 5th. Kick off at Wesley Clover Turf is at 4 pm.

Hamilton United Elite’s next game is their home opener, with DeRo United FC coming to town on Friday May 4th. Kick off at Ron Joyce Stadium is at 8 pm.
