Oscar Cordon (20') and Emmanuel Issac (69') scored at either end of the match for Woodbridge Strikers over OSU Force, finding their crucial breakthroughs against an OSU side intent on absorbing pressure and launching counters.

"It was pretty tough to play on this field for us," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "We moved the ball well but the grass was kind of high."

"We played against a team that defends a lot and keeps ten guys behind the ball, which meant that it was very hard to get opportunities. I guess they were trying to defend and counter on us, but I think we did enough to get the three points, which is what counts."

A clean sheet by Michael Scavone ensured the result for Woodbridge ahead of a massive mid-week fixture against west division leaders, Oakville Blue Devils. Woodbridge now needs one point to clinch first place in the east division.

For OSU Force, head coach Traian Matheas was focused on the continual development of his young team and was pleased with the performance his side put in on the defensive side of the ball in particular.

"It's all about how quickly we can support the front man," he said. "Dakota [Boal] is a big player and I put him in that forward role to hold, which he can do, but are the other players receptive to what is going on, I have to ask. That is teachable skill though, so I'm not worried about that."

"We play North Toronto next week and they are a good team that works well off each other so we will look to double up on the ball and squeeze the space from them. Hopefully we can carry on from a first half like that and open up a bit more and use our attacking abilities."

OSU Force will next play North Toronto Nitros on October 7 at Terry Fox South, Ottawa.

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Oakville Blue Devils on October 4 at Bronte Athletic, Oakville.
