A hat-trick from Vaughan's Olivia Lukasewich (50', 52', 62') and a clean sheet from Anna Karpenko ended the season for the Azzurri with a strong 3-0 result over visitors Aurora FC.

"In the second half we made some changes and obviously moving Olivia [Lukasewich] up top made a difference," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "We were also a little more careful with the ball and that was important to us as it helped to get the opportunities that we did."

"Olivia was very good, she scored three goals and was really resilient up there. She has never played at another pace, she is always at a winning mentality pace, always at a competitive pace. She is a special player. I think she has been a difference-maker all year, wherever we put her, and I don't think she gets enough credit in this league."

Vaughan finish the season in third position, with 39 points and a record of 12 wins, five losses and three draws. A last gasp goal in the Azzurri's match against FC London in the previous matchweek ended any lingering title-hopes, but Isacco said he felt the season had still been very productive in the long-view.

"I think we can end the season with our heads held up," he said. "I think last week was a bit of an anomaly where we kind of screwed-up the match with London when we had a chance to win it. They beat us in the last minute."

"We'll build on this season, and it was important for us all year to get the young ones in. We had a bunch of 2002s in there that are fantastic players and they are getting used to the pace of the game at this level so it is important. We're building, we'll make some changes, and have a proper focus on having players and giving them opportunities."

Aurora have one match remaining in their season, but are already reaping the benefits of a strong season building their group and look forward to a productive off-season.

"I thought our defence did very well today, especially the centre-backs - Laura [Marrelli] and Sarah [Reynolds] - and obviously Quinn [Josiah] the goalie stepped up to play very well," said Aurora team official, Peter Bulford.

"In the conditions, I thought they did very well. It was a makeup team with some young players, middle players and older players that haven't quite played together before so it was tough for us but I thought we did well."

"We have one more game left and then we go into the winter season and I think that should help us a great deal as we have a unit together for that period," he added.

"When we get to next year we will have a pool of players that have played together for a bit and it will be much better for us."

Aurora FC will next play Sanjaxx Lions on October 8 at Monarch Park, Toronto.
