West Ottawa SC finished off their debut League1 Ontario season as giant-killers, taking down current women's division leaders, North Mississauga SC, 3-2 at the final whistle.

"I thought we had a bit of a slow start, we had some a lot of younger players come in today, but I thought it was a very entertaining game," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"Very physical and I thought our young players really stepped up and played for us. Also it was nice to see our usual League1 players get into full game mode today."

"Mollie [Eriksson] our keeper did very well," she added, speaking to a player of the match.

"She kept us in the game with a couple saves. Some very nice goals for us too tonight, and overall it was a really nice performance I think from everybody."

Cathryn Rogers (6', 90') opened the scoring the match and sent North Miss ahead. Rogers would score her second of the night at the death of the match, but by then it was too late. Teammate Kira Bertrand had taken her second yellow and sent North Miss down to ten players, while West Ottawa had found their feet and a presence on the scoreboard as well.

Josie De Jesus-Shaw (21') was the first to draw blood for West Ottawa, levelling the score just before the half-hour, while Olivia Cooke (74') and Vanessa MacMillan (86') put the nails in the coffin late in the match and sealed the victory for the home side.

"I  think when the opponent saw that we were using some younger players they began to really test them physically," said North Miss head coach, Jhon Ardila.

"I think for us it was a very beautiful game. We played well, tried our best, and played with ten players for most of the second half. Still, we almost got the result too. I'm pleased with the way the players played. I'm pleased with the young kids we brought, who have played their whole life for North Mississauga Soccer Club. It was a great performance by all the girls and unfortunate that we didn't get the result, but that is football sometimes."

"Cathryn Rogers scored two goals and I think she demonstrated again why she is one of the top players in the league," he added.

"Kira Bertrand got a red card today, but she was and has been another one of our outstanding players too."

North Mississauga SC will next play Toronto Azzurri Blizzard on September 24 at Azzurri Village Main, Toronto.
