North Toronto Nitros remained in the hunt for the men's east division title after an 8-0 win over Aurora FC kept them in third spot with only four matches left in the season.

"A lot of our original team have gone back to university, so tonight it was all sixteen and seventeen year olds in the team," said Aurora FC head coach, Derek O'Keeffe.

"Our team is very, very young, and then you are trying to rebuild the team again and go over sessions that you've done - playing out, defending etc. You have to start from scratch."

"In my opinion, the purpose of League1 is to produce professional football players," he added.

"If we can get two of these players to be professional football players and represent Canada - that for me is job done. For me this is about development and at 16 or 17 they will learn a lot tonight."

Niklas Bauer (18', 55', 81') scored a hat-trick, making him the highest scoring Nitro after getting nine goals in only four matches.

Teammates Kevin DaSilva (4'), Kembo Kibato (29'), Christian Westlaken (33'), Callum Fleming (35') and Myles Abreo (89') all scored a goal each, while Stefan Dusciuc got the clean sheet.

"Usually when we train we don't place players in a particular position, so they all have chances to score and maybe then when they are in a game and they have the opportunity - they can score," said North Toronto Nitros head coach, Hermann Kingue.

"One of the recommendations we gave them was to keep a clean sheet. We wanted to test our defence and it worked."

North Toronto Nitros will next play Vaughan Azzurri on September 17 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Aurora FC will next play Masters FA Saints on September 16 at L'Amoreaux, Scarborough.
