The two top ranked teams in the women's division battled to a share of the points in Matchweek 20 as North Mississauga SC and Vaughan Azzurri settled at a 2-2 final score.
"I think we wanted to dominate the ball, dominate opportunities, and obviously look for a win," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco.
"I think we did that and we should have been more comfortable than we were. I thought we dominated the tempo and managed the game properly. In the end we should have handled it better."
Neither side could keep a lead for very long as first North Miss' Christina White (23') opened the scoring before Vaughan's Leah Pais (37') negated the early lead before half-time.
The Azzurri's Olivia Lukasewich (55') had Vaughan out to a strong start in the second half, but North Mississauga's Cathryn Rogers (89') stepped up to a free-kick at the death of the match and ensured at least one point would stay in Mississauga.
"For today's match, again we had the younger players so we tried to counter-attack again," explained North Mississauga assistant coach, Trevor Bertrand.
"That was the plan, let them play again in their zone and try to spring the counter. We got one goal and they got two, so second half we had to switch it around and go back to three defensive players and start to push the players up top. Fortunately, we got one on a free kick and it was 2-2."
North Mississauga SC will next play West Ottawa SC on September 15 at Beckwith Park, Ottawa.
Vaughan Azzurri will next play Durham United FA on September 15 at German Canadian Club, London.
