Unionville Milliken SC kept pace with their rivals after a 3-1 result over Toronto Azzurri Blizzard preserved a three way tie for second position in the women's table.

"I'm happy we got the win tonight," said Unionville assistant coach, Glenn Faulknor.

"We have been in a slump and I'm happy with the result, it was good for the girls."

Tajiah Henderson (38'), Kayla Goncalves (62') and Nicole Zajac (80') did the business for Unionville in the attacking phase and ensured the win, despite a late goal by the Blizzard's Makaela Williams (73') that brought the visitors within one goal to equalize.

"We changed our tactics and decided to go full pressure," explained Blizzard head coach, Joe Parolini.

"We know they are a good team but we also know they are not as fit. We went at them and they were giving up the ball and we were creating chances. We scored and had the momentum, and then a mistake by one of our young players led to conceding. It cost us and the momentum shifted again, and this is the maturity that is required to get to the next level on a consistent basis."

Difficult weather conditions required a delay of match, and players had to cope with a wet surface and numerous new faces as squads reshape for the third phase of the season and the post-university player exodus.

"It's tough in those circumstances because the players warm up then cool down, then warm up again, so it took them a minute to get going," said Faulknor.

"Once we got going though we began to find out legs, and there are a lot of new people on the team so it took some time to get comfortable. Definitely the more these players play together the better it is for us, so happy with how that developed today."

"I think all the factors have an effect when you have young players," said Parolini.

"They're not mature enough, they're not experienced enough, and anything that throws them off - that is where they make the mistakes."

"Unionville has experienced players here and it doesn't really phase them whereas with the young ones that is why we have them play League1, to all these quirks and quarks out of the way and learn from your mistakes."
