Woodbridge Strikers followed up on their #L1Cup2017 Championship Finals victory over Vaughan Azzurri with a 3-0 win over the Azzurri in the league, thanks to Christian Cavallini (35'), Oscar Cordon (49') and Luca Baldassarre (89') strikes.

Another clean sheet from Quillan Roberts ensured the result and gave the Strikers an eight point lead at the top of the men's east division.

"It was not an easy game," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto.

"Although the score showed 3-0 at the end, they had their chances. They are a good team with good players. On our chances we scored, on their chances they didn't get it in the net."

"We changed a little bit, went more like a 4-3-3 and when we were defending we went more with a 4-5-1," he added.

"We knew Vaughan needed the win and basically we tried to play more defensively, but the main objective when we did win the ball was to try and counter them and play more into the 4-3-3 again."

Azzurri head coach Carmine Isacco said his said again failed to deal with the big moments in the match, and ultimately was left chasing the game in the late stages.

"We had to deal with the little situations and manage the tempo," he said.

"They keep themselves in the game and they give away little chances. I honestly thought that we lost that game today and also the final because we didn't deal with the moments."

"Today they scored a special goal, [Christian] Cavallini finished when he needed to, Oscar [Cordon] finished when he needed to.

"I'm not sure we got challenged other than those. I don't think our keeper Colm [Vance] made many saves. Their first shot on net was a goal."

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Sigma FC on August 12 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.

Vaughan Azzurri will next play Sanjaxx Lions on August 13 at Monarch Park, Toronto.
