Emily Simmons (2') and Vanessa Thompson (17') hit early for the Toronto Azzurri Blizzard against Sanjaxx Lions and despite a late tally by Sona Makulova (83') it would prove to be job done for the Blizzard.

"I think the girls were just looking to finish the game as quickly as possible today and not get injured," said Blizzard head coach, Joe Parolini.

"This is their eighth game in ten days, and we won the Ontario Cup U21 yesterday. I rested most of the starters and two girls are training with Team Ontario for the Canada Games. We called up everybody today."

"This is the philosophy of our whole program, a scholarship program - we really push the girls," he added.

"The average age of our players today was probably just above 15 and that is a great accomplishment for these kids. They are going to have to finish part of the season as well, since many of the senior girls are leaving for their D1 schools in the States this week."

Sanjaxx are still searching for a second win in their 2017 season, having beaten the Blizzard 1-0 in their first match of the season.

"I thought the girls maintained good possession, there was fairly good movement forward, there was fairly good recovery, but there was not enough thrust or confidence to finish well," said Sanjaxx team official, Nicky Bonefede.

"The other issue that was in evidence today was that the girls needed to play a more physical game. The opponent was quite physical and our younger players need to toughen up."

Sanjaxx Lions will next play Vaughan Azzurri on July 29 at Monarch Park, Toronto.

Toronto Blizzard will next play Unionville Milliken SC on August 12 at Bill Crothers Turf, Unionville.
