Toronto Blizzard's Sarah Owusu (82') scored the lone goal of the game - the second in a week between the Blizzard and Vaughan Azzurri - handing the Blizzard a 1-0 win following a clean sheet by teammate Michaela Hawthorn.

"Today is our third game in three days and we have another three games in the next four days, so we defended, kept the middle tight, and looked for counters today because in addition we just don't have the healthy bodies to play the game," explained Blizzard head coach, Joe Parolini.

"It worked for us."

Sara Owusu's goal was her third against Vaughan in two matches, but with only one goal conceded across the two fixtures head coach Parolini looked elsewhere for the MVP selection.

"I think the whole back-line was the MVP," he said.

"Sara is phenomenal on the ball, she has great speed and moves, but she loves to go backwards and we've told her the last couple games to go forward," he added.

"Now she is going forward, going at players and changing pace, and that small tweak tactically has made a big difference in her game."

With the win, the Blizzard pull themselves to within a point of Aurora FC, which occupy eighth position. With the loss, Vaughan Azzurri go winless in four matches cumulative between league and L1 Cup competition, and plummet to fifth position in the league table after a very strong start to the season.

Vaughan Azzurri will next play West Ottawa SC on July 23 at McNaughton Turf, Vaughan.

Toronto Azzurri Blizzard will next play Sanjaxx Lions on July 23 at Monarch Park, Toronto.
