Anthony Novak (86') was on the mark late in the game for the Oakville Blue Devils, while keeper Matt George kept things clean at the back for the hosts, as they took a 1-0 result over Sanjaxx Lions on Matchweek Six.

"One of those games today where you do everything but score, and you get a few of them each season," said Oakville head coach, Duncan Wilde.

"We just had to be patient." We changed up at half-time to play three up top and it paid off, I think we scored 8-10 chances to score and eventually Anthony put the ball away for us."

"The goalkeeper played great, the back-line stayed tight and were difficult to break down, and at the end of the day I think we thoroughly deserved our three points. We dominated the game but you have to be patient sometimes and take the chance when it comes."

"We knew if we kept the quality and intense pressure we would get the goal," he added.

"We came so close on many occasions, and it was down to the senior players to keep everyone calm. I think we did that today and Anthony showed great composure to take the finish and give us the three points."

Sanjaxx coach Devon Porter was disappointed with the outcome after a hard-fought match by his side, but very much had his attention concentrated on the future.

"I think we were in the game until they scored in the eighty-fifth minute," he said.

"We came to compete and put up a good fight but at the end of it, it wasn't there. When you make silly mistakes like those, it is going to hurt you."

"We just wanted to stay behind the ball and let them come at us, because if they did so and we got a break then we could have caught them. The Oakville team is full of big, physical players and we don't have the strength that they have, but we can fight toe to toe with them and we played to that strength."

"We just need the guys to understand their roles, and how to play," he concluded.

"They have talent, that is for sure. We had a 16 and 17 year old playing, we can only get better from here."

Oakville Blue Devils will next play Pro Stars FC on Saturday June 10 at Avondale Stadium, Brampton.

Sanjaxx Lions will next play North Mississauga Panthers on Saturday June 10 at Hershey Centre, Mississauga.
