2016 League1 Ontario MVP and Golden Boot winner Jade Kovacevic (73', 75', 82') hammered home a hat-trick for FC London to defeat West Ottawa SC 3-1 on Saturday night.

"Our team is built from very strong characters from back to front and I believe that showed tonight," said Kovacevic.

"Our coach gives us amazing training and our conditioning showed at the end of the game. Credit to him, we couldn't have done it without his coaching."

Vanessa Gilles (80') got the lone goal for the visitors in a physical and testy contest that saw London's Montana Portenier dismissed.

"I think they actually set the tone with the physicality of the game, and I think we just responded to it, which was nice to see," said West Ottawa head coach, Kristina Kiss.

"I thought Vanessa [Gilles] our centre-back was absolutely fantastic again for us, and this time against a very strong striker."

"Typically it is not our gameplan or approach to have a dominant physical presence," said FC London head coach, Mike Marcoccia.

"We try and play and build up the game and this kind of stuff, but at the same time they were handed a card that they had to deal with today and kudos to my players - I thought they dealt with it very well, even though it is not their nature to have to be a physical team."

"Hats off to this team from Ottawa because defensively they were the most difficult team that we played against so far this season," he added.

"They continued to press us to the ninetieth minute."

London's home support was in full effect for the match, with nearly 600 supporters raucously cheering on their side and creating a true twelfth man scenario.

"Definitely our crowd here at the Cove is phenomenal," said Kovacevic.

"Our fans are the best in the league, probably the province I would say, and they create an atmosphere for us that keeps us going for the full ninety minutes."

"As a player when I have their support behind me, it pushes me to be better and they help keep me level-headed. It's hard sometimes but they make a big difference."

FC London will next play Aurora FC on Saturday June 3 at St. Maximillian Kolbe HS, Aurora.

West Ottawa SC will next play Sanjaxx Lions on Friday June 2 at Beckwith Park, Ottawa.
