Canada Soccer has invited players into a Women’s National Excel (NEX) Camp as preparations begin for the next FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2018 in France. The camp taking place from 12 -21 March 2017 at Fortius in Burnaby, brings together players from throughout the EXCEL system.

Five players from 2016 League1 Ontario teams have been included in the selection.

"We are building on our NEX curriculum foundation from the 2016 cycle with many of the players in this group having graduated from the NEX 14 to 17-year-old group who recently competing in Jordan, and some of the same players returning players from the U20 team that competing in Papua New Guinea," said Bev Priestman, Canada Soccer Women’s National Excel Director.

With six players (Carle, Stratigakis, Fleming, Rose, Taylor and Huitema) eligible for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup having participated in the recent Women’s National Team silver medal performance at the 2017 Algarve Cup, Priestman and the Canada Soccer Excel staff have had an opportunity to bring in and assess new players, to support the growth and depth of the EXCEL program.

"This camp includes some new faces identified through the identification camps held in February," said Priestman. "We are not only working on the Women's EXCEL playing model curriculum but also on developing these players individually towards our system positional profiles with WNT in mind working towards the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019 and 2020 Tokyo Olympics."

The next FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup takes place in 2018 and the next FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019, both in France. The Olympics will take place in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan.

Canada Soccer Women’s National EXCEL Program brings together the best with the best at the national youth level. Operating across the U-14 to U-17 and U-18 to U-23 age groups, the program is designed to deliver an aligned talent structure and system that progresses more top players to Canada's Women’s National Team.
