The visiting Vaughan Azzurri came into Kingston seeking their fourth win in five matches.

However, they were quickly hit with a stunner early as the Kingston Clippers ran out to an early lead with Jessie De Boer (21') finding the back of the net.

The Clippers followed up with a Riley Filion goal (40'), walking off to a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Vaughan head coach Vince Schiraldi agreed that "it was a tough atmosphere to start the match, being that it was the U16 girl's team representing Vaughan in this match."

It appeared as though many of the young girls were slowly adapting to the new atmosphere of a much higher level of play than previously used to.

As both teams headed into halftime, it appeared that Kingston was far and above the better team.

It had been a first half in which "Kingston played very, very physical and were very strong in the air," Schiraldi stated.

The second half was very much a different story.

Vaughan came out determined to fight their way back. After a first half in which Kingston arguably "dominated," the Azzurri looked to put the result back into their hands.

Sara Minott (55') slid a through ball past the outstretched keeper to come up with one just before the hour mark.

Vaughan's Gabriella Froggat-Alexande (83') then leveled the score with under ten minutes left in regular time.

As the final minutes of the match wore on, it appeared as though both teams were satisfied with a draw.

However, it was not apparent to young Avery Duarte (89'), who stepped up to head a last minute corner kick into the top corner, just beating the outstretched arms of Kingston goalkeeper Rachel Desrosiers.

"It just goes to show that you need to play a full 90 minutes in this league," joked Kingston head coach Sean O'Brien.

Almost feeling like the team had the game in the bag at halftime, O’Brien said "the girls played far too conservative and Vaughan made the most of their chances in the second half; exploiting the gap between the Kingston midfield and defense."

With the result, Vaughan and Kingston both complete their respective seasons. Vaughan sits in third position with 29 points from 16 matches, and Kingston secured seventh position with 17 points from 16 matches.
