Woodbridge keeper Hope Sabadash saved the day, literally, for the Strikers in Wednesday night's L1 Cup semi-final win over 2015 L1 Cup winners, North Mississauga Panthers.

After Woodbridge's Vladanka Gurovski (39') had given the away side an early lead, North Mississauga and Canada U20 striker Emily Borgmann (76') hit back late in the game to send this Cup fixture straight to the penalty shots tiebreaker.

First up was goalscorer Borgmann, but Sabadash was seeking redemption for the Panther strikers's earlier goal, and she found it after guessing correctly, diving low to her left and parrying away the effort.

Woodbridge's Diamand Simpson ensured her effort was unstoppable by driving it high and to Panther's keeper Tori Edgar's right, and then it was Edgar's turn to test her opposite number, Sabadash.

Edgar hit her effort powerfully, but missed the target low and to Sabadash's right hand post. Woodbridge Strikers' forward Christabel Oduro was up next, and though her shot beat Edgar, it came off the inside of the post and rolled along the line, before barely drifting in at the back post. Advantage Woodbridge.

Jamaica U20 striker Oshay Lawes casually finished her chance for the Panthers next, leaving the stage for Sabadash to step up to the mark. She made no mistake, sending it low and to Edgar's left.

Erica Brunet had to finish her penalty to give Panthers a chance of proceeding, but Sabadash was on a high, this time guessing right again and saving the ball low at her right hand post.

Woodbridge's win sends them to what promises to be an action-packed Vaughan - Woodbridge 2016 Women's L1 Cup final on July 30 (3:30 p.m.) at Ontario Soccer Centre.
