Vaughan women travelled to North Mississauga's home grounds at Hershey Centre on Saturday, but after going ahead just after the interval on a penalty from Nicole Lyon (48') they had to settle on a draw after Oshay Lawes (89') stuck one way just before the final whistle.

Vaughan started on the front foot, with Munchie, Beesley and Lyon among those effectively pressing the North Miss backline in possession

"We wanted to press in areas where we thought we could get transition opportunities," said Vaughan head coach, Carmine Isacco. "We wanted to get opportunities off of defensive wins, winning the ball, in places we could launch attacks from."

And we did, we turned them over and we had opportunities to get more than one. We just weren't clean and efficient in the final third, but still we got one and that should have been enough to win the game."

Forced into an error, a North Miss defender was penalized just after the restart for a foul and the penalty was dispatched by Lyon.

"The penalty was harsh, in that I felt badly for the player that gave it away but it was still a foul," said Isacco

"It's always perception, and our perception was that it was outside the box," said North Miss head coach, Jhon Ardila. "But I'm sure it will be looked at again."

North Miss quickly changed their gameplan and came back into the contest in the second half, pushing hard to get back on level terms. Jamaica U20 striker Oshay Lawes provided the breakthrough late in the contest, racing down the left flank and beating the keeper.

"We needed to change things so we moved some players up and made some tactical adjustments in the second half," explained Ardila. "We played with three in the back and moved another player up top and in the end it worked out well that we got the goal and the tie."

Vaughan now sits in fifth position on seven points, with North Miss right behind them on six points.

Both teams will get to work again mid-week as they are in the second round of the L1 Cup.

Vaughan plays Sanjaxx Lions at the Ontario Soccer Centre on June 22 (8 p.m.) while North Miss is away to Durham United FA at Kinsmen Park on June 22 (8 p.m.).
