Woodbridge Strikers went on a scoring tear against 2016 expansion team Darby FC, winning 14-0 in front of home supporters at Vaughan Grove, Woodbridge.

Canada U20 and University of Memphis striker Jessica Lisi (22', 32', 49', 53', 63', 80', 86') led the scoring with an astounding seven goals - her first since winning the 2015 Golden Boot.

"I'm really excited," she said. "This is actually the first goal that I scored in since last year when I led the league."

"This is my second last game, so I just wanted to get a bunch of goals in before I leave for university."

Forward Lisa Pecheresky (17', 40') added two on the day, while Canada WNT pool players Christabel Oduro (34, 48) and Alyscha Mottershead (43', 45', 50') added a brace and a hat-trick respectively.

Woodbridge head coach Joe Parolini pointed to weather conditions and the experience of his squad as reasons for the dominant display.

"The sad part for both sides was the wind," he said. "Darby is a good team, they've had some good performances in the league, but I think with the wind, our experience paid off and we showed our maturity and experience today."

"Going into the second half I told the players the same as I always do, we have to win the first ten minutes, go hard at the other team, and don't give any chances away," he explained.

"We scored three goals in the first five or six minutes I believe. They executed the half-time plan perfectly."

Darby FC head coach Mirco Schroff took some positives from his team's early match performance, and spoke to the enormous challenge for players and coaches in the circumstances.

"If you take the game by its final score, it is a disaster any way you slice it," he said.

"I think the first fifteen minutes in the game, silly as it may sound now, was a decent start to the game. We tried to keep possession and keep the ball moving. and the first fifteen minutes we managed to test Woodbridge a little."

"After one and two nothing, we just crashed. Totally crashed. Body language, focus, concentration, confidence - everything all at once. Obviously it spiralled to that 7-0 deficit at half-time."

"It is obviously one of the biggest challenges for both a coach and a player to go into a dressing room at half-time knowing what just happened, and to try and digest that in a quick ten minutes is obviously not enough," he concluded.

"I said that you push the reset button, don't worry about the score, you worry about saving the day. Saving the day in this situation is to not get exposed as much, keep the head up, body language positive to play the game as you have another forty-five minutes. It didn't turn out that way at all."

Woodbridge Strikers will next play Aurora United FC at Sheppard's Bush on June 18 (4 p.m.).

Darby FC head to Queen's University, Tindall Field to play Kingston Clippers on June 19 (4 p.m.).
