As a follow up to February's successful coaching development session led by Tony Fonseca, Technical Director of Canada Soccer, the Ontario Soccer Association was again pleased to host Fonseca and Canada Soccer staff on June 9, 2016 to conduct a Goalkeeper Coach Development Session with League1 Ontario and OPDL coaches.

The session took place at the Ontario Soccer Centre from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and consisted of a two hour in-class session, a 45 minute lunch and an on-field session.

"We sincerely appreciate the investment of time that Canada Soccer's technical leadership has put into working with our coaches," said League1 Ontario Commissioner, Dino Rossi.

"We have a mutual commitment to achieving a high level of philosophical alignment with our national team staff that only gets reinforced when events like the Goalkeeper Coach Development session take place," he added.

"We can't wait to organize more of these events."

Canada Soccer Goalkeeper coach and UEFA Pro license holder Nuno da Costa Santos presented on-field and in-class sessions to the League1 and OPDL coaches. The subject of the presentation was playing out from the back via GK.

"The OSA was very happy to have National Teams GK coach, Nuno Santos, and Technical Director, Tony Fonseca, present to over 35 Goalkeeper coaches from League1 and OPDL license holders," said Ontario Soccer Association Technical Director, Gary Miller.

"Santos took the group through his goalkeeper coaching philosophy in the classroom and on the field," he added, "while Fonseca tied it all in by creating the bigger picture with team coaches, the Provincial Teams Program and the National Teams Program. "

"This helps create an atmosphere of inclusiveness amongst our coaches with the National Program."
