Aurora United FC completed a home opener double-header with the men's side looking for points against joint-top of the east division, Woodbridge Strikers. It was not in the cards on the day, as Strikers' ran out 4-1 winners.

Cameron Brooks (6') opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes, and Christian Cavallini (37') closed out the half by giving the visitors a two goal pad.

"Our focus was not to concede any goals to start with," said Woodbridge head coach, Peter Pinizzotto. "You never know how the teams are going to come at you, and I warned the boys that just because they were near the bottom of the standings there was nothing to be taken for granted."

"I thought we had a positive start and the boys got some goals in the first half and then we put it away in the second."

Stephen Almeida (51') one just after the interval, and Cavallini(53')  completed the day's scoring for Woodbridge minutes later.

Aurora's Simon Adiej (67') got a consolation goal for the hosts, and Aurora had decent chances to get back in the game, but couldn't finish the chances.

"We had a few chances today, we created some good things going forward and I think our shape was better," said Aurora head coach, Jimmy Brennan. "A lot of positives today. We had some good opportunities but couldn't put them away in the end."

"Workrate was good but we let ourselves down on two set plays which put us down early doors. Still i thought the boys' performance was good."

Aurora and Woodbridge are both through to the second round of the L1 Cup, but will need to wait to find out details of their match-ups versus Vaughan and Kingston respectively.

Aurora is back in league action on June 4 (9 p.m.) at L'Amoreaux against Master's FA Saints, while Woodbridge goes to Varsity Stadium to take on North Toronto Nitros on June 5 (3 p.m.).
