FC London women's unbeaten run to start their first ever League1 Ontario season was extended to three matches in a row following a 2-1 win over visitors North Mississauga S.C.

"I guess we didn't expect a 3-0 start to the season," said assistant coach, Jay Sandford. "We expected tough competition and it has been, but at the end of the day our ladies have shown up each of the three matches and today was no different."

London got off to the right start, as Marissa Oliveira (24') opened the scoring within the first half hour, and then the home side kept possession of the ball in sweltering conditions.

"We went up in the first half and sat on it a bit as nobody was going to be moving too fast in this weather," said Sandford. "We put a focus on controlling the ball and taking our opportunities when they came and in the end it worked out."

After some tactical adjustments, North Mississauga's Emily Borgmann (50') brought the contest back to equal terms.

"We went from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 trying to get them outnumbered out top," said North Miss assistant coach, Trevor Bertrand. "We had to put more pressure as we weren't getting enough support to the striker in the first half. But the change wasn't important as we gave one up within minutes of scoring."

Chelsea Zavitz (51') instantly cancelled out any momentum North Miss was gathering with her strike a minute later. It would prove to be the winner.

"It was off a corner and I went front post and I just knicked it and it went in," said Zavitz. "I think they had us at the end, but our team is very composed. We play the short style and I think we're better at it than most teams."

"The dressing room is pretty hyped right now, Beyonce is a bit of a favourite in the dressing rooms right now, or a bit of rap. Anything energetic. We're happy with our start to this season."

FC London go on the road to Darlington on June 3 (8 p.m.) to play Darby FC, while North Miss also make tracks to Kingston to play Clippers on June 5 (5 p.m.).
