Joint-top of the east met joint-top of the west in a thrilling L1 Cup first round fixture on Thursday night in London, with eastern representatives Durham United FA moving on to the next round following a comprehensive 3-0 win.

Bruce Cullen (19') was the first to register on the night, dribbling through several defenders before delivering a wonderful chip across the keeper.

Both teams sought to get the ball and keep it, via strong, physical defence and careful attention to possessive play, leading to a first half occasionally bogged down by cautionable play but never in danger of getting out of control.

The second half would start with fireworks however, with London's Gigolaj forcing a great save and goalmouth scramble from Durham, before Durham's own Kashiff De Jonge (58') registered the club's second of the night. De Jonge met a cross at near post, connecting solidly on the volley to give the GK no chance.

A late penalty from Jonathan Parades (71') would effectively end the contest, and FC London's early season unbeaten streak.

Durham United FA will now move on to the second round to meet the winner of North Mississauga and North Toronto on May 31.
