Kingston Clippers women pulled out a remarkable performance away to powerhouse Woodbridge Strikers, rebounding from 4-1 down with fifteen minutes left to play to draw the home side 4-4 at the whistle.

Alyssa Fenuta (90') scored the final goal for Clippers in the very last minute.

"It was awesome, it felt like the World Cup!" said Fenuta.

"I came in off the bench which is always tough to do, especially in a cold match like this, but I snuck in behind some defenders and put it in. It just goes to show it doesn't matter how many minutes you get you have to go in and give it. It felt good."

Woodbridge had started the match as the stronger of the two teams, with Christabel Oduro (29', 35', 75') scoring two of her three goals on the night inside the first forty minutes, and Lisa Pechereski (42') adding another before the break.

But the Strikers would take some injuries as well, and needed to adjust personnel and shape to accommodate, which in turn created some openings for the Clippers. Kingston's Savannah Meyer-Clement (37') made sure to take the opportunity to get the away side on the board just before the half.

"Losing a player and captain in the middle of the first half, like April Syme, who sustained a few stitches to the head from a head collision, shows how much the older, more mature players mean to a young team, playing with eight 98s and one 99 in the starting lineup," said Woodbridge head coach, Joe Parolini.

"April's injury forced us to play a second '99 in mid, Sofia Borea, who did an admirable job in her first game."

Kingston returned refreshed from the half-time talk, and full of renewed purpose.

Even Oduro's third goal didn't deter their focus, and first Riley Filion (78'), then Jackie Tessier (82'), and finally Alyssa Fenuta (90') finished their chances to make it a glorious point on the road for the blue and yellow of Kingston.

"We really pushed hard and we told them at half that the game was possible to draw," said Kingston assistant coach, Kevin Greig.

"The girls did very well and obviously came back from 4-2 down with just a few minutes to go. It was quite a good result for us as was the first point in the history of the club in League1, so we're very happy with that."

"In the end, a three goal lead was not enough as we missed man marking assignments in the box," concluded Parolini.

"The gust of wind is only an excuse for missing our marking responsibilities. If our players want to have an impact at the NCAA D1 level, they will have to improve both mentally and take ownership in their defending third. That is nothing to take away from Kingston, as they continued to push & were rewarded with the point."
