North Mississauga SC women were one of the 2015 season's top performers, winning the L1 Cup over Vaughan and displaying a chemistry and quality that increasingly made them a lethal threat to the opposition.

The team returns for the 2016 season with high hopes, and although one or two of their stars have departed for professional level opportunities, the club has made shrewd moves in the off-season and picked up impressive recruits.

North Miss president Trevor Bertrand provided some inside info on the team ahead of their opening match vs. Darby FC...

Your team seemed to get more and more dangerous as the season went on in 2015. What are your hopes and goals for the group this year?

"The North Mississauga women's League1 soccer team, after a successful 2015 season, are preparing steadfastly for the commencement of the 2016 season.

We have had some challenges, but we have addressed some positional requirements and greatly improved in squad depth."

What returning players have you got in the fold this season?

"The team has been blessed with the return of all players from last year including the team leader and League1 first-team All-Star Kira Bertrand, who anchors the defense.

Also returning is Oshay Lawes, another first team All-Star who most recently represented Jamaica at the U20 championships.

Having lost one of the main components upfront in Krista Cellucci to a pro contract in Norway the front line has been strengthened by the addition off Chanel Hudson-Marks, another representative for Jamaica at the U20 level.

We have also added Emily Borgmann, who has represented Canada from the U15 level and, most recently, at U20."

What other new players have you brought in?

"One area of concern for the team was the midfield, and this has been addressed by the signing of another League1 All-Star first team member, Cat Rogers.

Cat will add another dimension to the midfield and will work with Jivan Yacou, MVP of the L1 Cup final.

Another signing of note would be Tori Edgar goalkeeper from Western University in addition to Ashley Almeida from Laurier - both had outstanding seasons this past season. Ashley has also played for the Portuguese National Team in 2015.

The team will be looking to the younger teams once the players return to University come August."
