Kingston Clippers are an original member of League1 Ontario, representing Eastern Ontario since 2014 on the men's side, and now bringing the best female players in the area together for a first season at the Pro-Am level.

Pulling together players primarily from the Kingston and surrounding areas, head coach Christian Hoefler will be looking for early chemistry from a core built around the varsity soccer programs at Queen's, St. Lawrence College, and the Clippers own player development pipeline.

With exceptionally strong community support and backing for the women's soccer programs at the post-secondary level, expect the region to rally around this side and make home pitch Queen's University's Tindall Field as much a fortress for the women as for the men.

League1 touched base with Hoefler to get the lowdown on the Clippers women's team, and how he expects them to do in their first season...

It's always tough to get a new team together and especially at an elite senior level What are your biggest challenges for the season ahead? What are your goals?

"This will be the first year that the Kingston Clippers L1O women will be competing.  The club and entire Kingston soccer community is excited to finally be able to offer an elite level playing opportunity for the talented females of this region.

One major challenge that we will face this season is the adjustment for some of our players who have not experienced such a a high level of play before, or have been absent from it over en extended period of time.

The group's goal for the 2016 season is to prepare for every match with the utmost focus and ensure communication between each player and coach is clear and concise on and off the pitch.

Our goals are all quite pragmatic and were formulated as a group after we met and discussed the upcoming season.  We all agree that this will allow the players to take accountability as a unit prior, during, and after matches with the analysis of individual and team performances as a guide to better ourselves as a whole.

The players and coaching staff are ambitious that we will be able to compete with the best in the top flight.

You have some outstanding varsity programs in your area, of which you would be well aware considering you are the Queen's men's coach as well!

What can League1 supporters expect to see in this team?

"A majority of our roster consists of OUA, OCAA and local/ regional women's players that share an abundance of experience and leadership.

Algonquin College's Captain Melissa Harrison has displayed exceptional habits and maximum capacities over the pre-season. Harrison has been one of the obvious players that we feel will excel in League1 Ontario and inspire many of our younger players within the club and community.

Mallory McQueen of St Lawrence College was one of the first signings for the new L1O team and has already set high standards for her teammates and self.  McQueen leads by example throughout every training session and match, a trait well-respected by the entire group.

Current and former Queen's University players added to our top women's team include OUA and CIS champions Jackie Tessier, Riley Filion, Jess DeBoer and Brittany Almeida."

We know the Clippers is very focused on the developmental pyramid for players.

Who are some of the younger talents that will hit the pitch this season?

"Throughout the season our roster will aim to include our youth players within the club, such as Logan Medeiros and Mallory Pellow.

Many other aspiring U16 to U18 Kingston Clippers girls will be looked upon to join the top side in training throughout the season, and eventually in matches."
